Measuring activities

This term our other Strand for Mathematics is Measurement.  Every Friday we focus our learning on this and do 'hand's on' activities to reinforce our learning.

Last Friday Rooms 15, 16 and 17 were learning about measuring things with non-standard units.  They watched a video and then chose a buddy to work with.  Together they participated in a variety of activities where they had to measure objects using non-standard units (hands, feet, straws, string, pencil, pipe-cleaner etc) to measure objects correctly.  They made sure they were measuring as accurately as possible and had to think about which "non-standard unit" in their toolkit was most suitable.  There was a lot of discussion, working together and problem-solving happening.

Next week we are going to do the same, but measure using proper measuring tools and units.
